Premium Cowhide Rug – Brown Brindle (134 x 140 – Code 140)

Care Instructions for Cowhide Rugs

Proper care and maintenance of cowhide rugs will help them retain their beauty and durability over time. Here’s a guide to keeping your cowhide rug in excellent condition:

1. Regular Maintenance:

Shaking and Vacuuming:

• Shake: Take the rug outside and shake it out periodically to remove loose dirt and debris.
• Vacuum: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment or without the beater bar to gently vacuum the rug in the direction of the hair. Avoid vacuuming against the grain to prevent hair damage.

Brushing:

• Soft Brush: Use a soft-bristled brush or a pet brush to keep the hair aligned and remove any surface dirt. Brush in the direction of the hair.

2. Spot Cleaning:

For Spills and Stains:

• Blot: Immediately blot any liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth to absorb as much moisture as possible. Do not rub, as this can spread the stain.
• Damp Cloth: For more persistent stains, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soapy water. Gently blot the area until the stain lifts. Rinse by blotting with a cloth dampened with plain water.
• Dry: Allow the area to air dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight or heat sources.

For Dry Stains (e.g., food, mud):

• Scrape Off: Use a dull knife or a plastic scraper to gently remove dried-on material.
• Brush: After scraping, brush the area with a soft brush to remove any remaining residue.

3. Deep Cleaning:

Hand Cleaning:

• Mild Soap Solution: Mix a small amount of mild, non-alkaline soap with water.
• Damp Cloth: Dampen a cloth with the solution and wipe the cowhide gently.
• Rinse: Rinse the cloth in plain water and wipe again to remove soap residue.
• Dry: Blot with a dry towel and allow the rug to air dry completely, avoiding direct sunlight or heat.

4. Drying:

• Air Dry: Always air dry cowhide rugs away from direct sunlight or any direct heat sources, which can cause the hide to become stiff and brittle.

5. Dealing with Odors:

• Baking Soda: Sprinkle baking soda over the rug and let it sit for a few hours before vacuuming it off. This can help absorb and neutralize odors.

6. Additional Tips:

• Avoid Excess Moisture: Do not soak cowhide rugs or immerse them in water, as excessive moisture can damage the hide.
• Avoid Chemicals: Avoid using harsh cleaning chemicals, bleach, or products not specifically designed for leather or hides.
• Rotate: Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear and exposure to light.

7. Protecting the Rug:

• Placement: Avoid placing cowhide rugs in high-traffic areas or areas prone to moisture, such as bathrooms or kitchens.
• Furniture: Use rug pads or felt protectors under furniture legs to prevent indentations or damage to the rug.

Summary of Care:

These guidelines will help maintain the appearance and longevity of your cowhide rug, ensuring it remains a stylish and functional part of your décor.
